FAST NEUTRON TIME-OF-FLIGHT SYSTEM FOR USE WITH ISSP CYCLOTRON

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4079640
During reconstruction of the 16-in, cyclotron, modifications were made to permit fast neutron experiments. The time-of-flight method was adopted as an energy analyzer for the fast neutrons. The time-of-flight system is described, together with the reduction of the repetition frequency of the bunched beam. Plastic scintillators are used for neutron detection. A proton beam with a peak current of 400 mu amp is obtained with a duration of 2 nsec (natural bunching) and a reduced repetition frequency of 3 Mc at the neutron-producing target. The overall time resolution of the system is about 4 nsec for 1-Mev neutrons. (D.C.W.)
