A TIME-OF-FLIGHT SPECTROMETER FOR FAST NEUTRONS

A short description is given of a time-of-flight spectrometer for fast neutrons. The spectrometer is of the type first described by G. C. Neilson and D. B. James with some modifications. The time resolution obtained with the spectrometer is l.0 n sec. The two neutron groups from the reaction Be/sup 9/(d, n gamma )B/sup 10/ corresponding to the excited states at 2.15 and 1.74 Mev in B/ sup 10/ were completely resolved. (auth)
