SPARK CHAMBER STUDY: EFFECT OF VOLTAGE RISE TIME ON SECOND SPARK EFFICIENCY

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4078204
The efficiency of spark formation in a neon spark chamber was measured as a function of voltage rise time on the plates of the chamber for times greater than approximately 10 nanoseconds. Attention was given to the competing breakdown in two electrically equivalent gaps. It was shown that the probability for spark formation in the two gaps is not independent. Three plate separations were used: 0.125, 0.250, and 0.375 inch. The neon was at atmospheric pressure, and its purity was controlled and checked. (auth)
