The use of radioisotopes in metallurgy as tracers and as radiation sources is briefly illustrated. The study of the descent of the charge to the blast furnace, determina, tion of the origin of inclusions, and study of convection currents in ingots during solidification are given as examples of the use of tracers. Control apparatus described include gammagraphs, thickness gages, devices to measure charge level, device to study wear of blast furnace walls, core sample analyzer, and humidity gage. (J.S.R.)
