A method is described for the direct determination of /sup 55/Fe and / sup 59/Fe in plasma preparations when the two isotopes are used simultaneously in biological tracer studies. Samples of plasma obtained from centrifuged heparinized blood are pipetted directly onto Al planchets, dried, and counted in a gas flow detector with a mylar window of less than 150 mu g/cm/sup 2/ average density. The sample is counted again with an Al filter in place. The amounts of /sup 55/Fe and /sup 59/Fe in the plasma sample can be determined by a simple equation. (C.H.)
