THE DETECTION OF RADIOISOTOPES IN URINE. PART I (in German)
A review of theory and methods for the detection of isotopes is presented. The evaluation of activity measurements of radionuclides separated from urine, with emphasis on methods of incorporation, rate of resorption, separation after incorporation, and especially differential absorption, is discussed. The choice of samples for measurement is briefly reviewed. Under the topic of total activity of a urine sample, detailed discussion of the influence of K/sup 40/ content on total activity, determination of total activity with detectors for liquids, incineration of the organic substance and separation of K from the urine sample, measurement of total activity by evaluation of solid preparations from the urine sample, detection of radioactive halogens in the determination of total activity, and the application of autoradiography for determination of total activity is made. Tables are presented for the efficiency for various isotopes and the least activity detectable for emitters as measured by a liquid tube counter, a scintillation counter with pan, and scintillation counter with bore hole; data are compared for K/sup 40/, Cd/sup 115m/, Sb/sup 125/ , Se/sup 75/, Cl/sup 36/, I/sup 131/, S/ sup 35/, P/sup 32/, Sr/sup 90/-Y/sup 90/ , data are given for a methane diffusion counter, a tube counter, and a scintillation counter with BETA scintillator in measurements on solid samples, Minimum detectable activities by autoradiography are given for Sr/sup 90/ and Se/ sup 75/. A procedure for preparation of samples for determination of total activity by wet oxidation and for the separation of K is outlined. (BBB)
