MOSSBAUER EFFECT IN FERREDOXIN

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4076353

The Mossbauer effect in ferredoxin enriched with Fe/sup 57/ was measured at 298, 195, and 77 deg K. A two-line velocity spectrum was observed at each temperature. The hyperfine splitting, the shift from zero velocity, the line widths, and the absorption strength all increase with decreasing temperature. The spectrum behaves as a doublet, split by the electric quadrupole interaction. Line broadening at room temperature suggests the presence of additional unresolved splitting. The magnitude of the shifts and splittings in ferredoxin are consistent with an interpretation of covalently bound iron. (auth)
