The observation of stimulated emission near 1.08 mu from a single crystal of Gd/sub 2/NO/sub 3/: Nd/sup 3+/ is reported. The emission arose from the /sup 4/F/sub 3/2/ to /sup 4/I/sub 11/2/transitions. The spectral linewidths of the most intense lines are 20 to 30 cm/sup -1/ at room temperature and 8 cm/ sup -1/ at 77 deg K. An EGG FX-33 flashlamp was used. The fluorescence lifetime was approximates 120 mu sec. (L.E.S.)
