INELASTIC SCATTERING OF A $Sigma$-HYPERON WITH AN EMULSION NUCLEUS

In a systematic study of fast hyperons resulting from the nuclear capture of K/sup -/ mesons, an event was found which is interpreted as the elastic scattering of SIGMA /sup -/ hyperon by a bound neutron. The reaction kinematics are insufficient to determine the nature of the nuclear potential for SIGMA - hyperone but it appears that when about 10 of these events have been found and analyzed, it will be possible to infer the sign of the potential from the general effect it will have on the observable kinematics of the events.
