The Liouville equation is used to derive an equation for the physical observables described as the averages of the phase functions in GAMMA -space. The Grad treatment of the Liouville equation for the reduced distribution functions is discussed. A formah derivation is given of the Boltzmann equation for binary collisions. Boltzmann's H-theorem, Maxwell distribution, and equipartition theorem are discussed on the basis of the formal derivation. A Coulomb collision term is obtained under the assumption that the particles undergo many statistically independent smallangle deflections. (B.O.G)
