The use of thermal and fast neutrons in activation analysis is considered. Useful neutron-producing reactions are tabulated, and the Van de Graaff accelerator as a neutron source using the /sup 3/H(d,n) reaction is discussed. A compilation of fast neutron reactions, nuclear parameters, and applicability for activation analysis is given for a large number of isotopes. The factors affecting the sensitivity are discussed. A table is given which compares the detectability of the elements using fast and thermal neutrons. (D.L.C.)
