A STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS FLUORIDE TREATMENTS ON THE PROPERTIES OF BARIUM TITANATE AND LEAD ZIRCONATE TITANATE POLYCRYSTALLINE FERROELECTRIC CERAMICS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4071889
Property changes were observed which occur in a nondoped barium titanate body and a lead zirconate titanate Pb(Zr/sub 0.5//sub 6/ Ti/sub 0.4//sub 4/)O/sub 3/ with 1 wt.% Nb/sub 2/O/sub 5/ i after a fluoride powder packing procedure. The fluoride packing procedure consisted of surrounding matured (fired) specimens of BaTiO/sub 3/ and PZT-XVIII (lead zirconate titanate composition) with an alkline earth fluoride (MgF/sub 2/, CaF/sub 2/, SrF/sub 2/, and BaF/sub 2/) or PbF/sub 2/ in a closed containner. The packed specimens were heat to a fluoridizing temperature and held at this temperature for soak times ranging up to 4 hr. (auth)
