NITROUS-OXIDE DOSIMETRY SYSTEM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4069574
Development of a nitrous oxide dosimetry system based on the reactions reported by Harteck and Dondes is reported. The dosimeters, which are capable of measuring integrated gamma doses over a range of lO/sup 8/ to lO/sup 12/ ergs/ g(C), are of simple construction and are relatively inexpensive. With the complementary vacuum system, eight of the simpllfied dosimeters can be filled and read out per hour. Experimental results on temperature dependence, dose rate dependence, postirradiation stability, and the effect of varying the amount and pressure of the nitrous oxide gas are reported. Calculations on the neutron sensitivity, G-value, W-value, and air-equivalence of the dosimeter are also included. Results show that this dosimetry system is a valuable tool in radiation-effects testing. (auth)
