MEASUREMENT OF THE ENERGY OF NEGATIVE $pi$ MESONS USING A STAR DETECTOR (in Russian)

A star detector constructed with two scintillation coincidence counters is used for selective pi /sup -/ meson recordings. The detector is capable of rapidly measuring (15 min at beam intensity of approximately 10/sup 3/ approximately /sup -//sec) the track and energy of approximately /sup -/ mesons. Track curves for approximately /sup -/ mesons at 160 Mev are plotted. The diagram shows that the star detector records the stars and not the stopped particles. The sensitivity of the detector to mu /sup -/ mesons is about 20 times weaker than to approximately /sup -/ mesons. (R.V.J.)
