A method of preparing thorium oxalate so that it exhibits a high-packed bulk density is described. It was found that on providing a constant ratio of a monovalent inorganic cation to the thorium during precipitation of thorium oxalate from an aqueous solution of a thorium salt reacting with oxalic acid at 40 deg C or above. The sodium, potassium, ammonium, or lithium cation, or mixtures of them, are added in an amount directly proportional to that of the thorium within the range of 0.5 to 15 moles of cation per mole of thorium. The pH of the aqueous thorium salt solution is kept below 4. (M.C.G.)
