PRODUCTION CROSS SECTIONS FOR GAMMA RAYS (PROGRAM GAMMA-P)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4066871

The cross section for the production of gamma rays by radiative capture of a neutron, by inelastic scattering of a neutron, and by neutron- induced fissioning is computed by Program GAMMA-P as a function of the neutron lethargy and the photon energy bands. Neutron cross sections and gamma spectra for all three reactions are input for the program. Corrections are made for discrepancies between the neutron binding energy and the energy-integrated gamma spectrum of the element or isotope, for the neutron kinetic energy, and for internal conversion. Gamma production cross sections computed by Program GAMMA-P are being used with transport theory program S-VII and are to be included on the Reactor Nuclear Data Type. The production cross sections are automatically punched on decimal cards for ease of use with other programs. A tabulation of gamma ray production cross sections for 2l elements is included. (auth)
