Heat Exchange in the Transverse Flow Around Tube Bundles; TEPLOOBMEN PRI POPERECHNOM OBTEKANII PUCHKOV TRUB
Heat exchange in transverse mercury flow around tube bundles in staggered and straight line distributions with equal spacings of S/sub 1//d = 1.2 (and at S/sub 2//d = 1.1 to 1.5) and Re numbers from 150 to 5000 was investigated. Temperature profiles along the wall and mean heat transfer coefficients were found. A large temperature fluctuation, which reached to 60% of the mean, was discovered in transverse flows of liquid metal and water. The fluctuation was investigated as a function of bundie geometry, flow rate, heat flux, wall material, contact thermal resistance, inflow conditions, etc. In tightiy staggered bundles (S/sub 1//d = 1.2 and S/sub 2//d = 1.1) the temperature fluctuation was 3 to 4% and in loosely staggered and straight line bundles it was 40 to 70%.
