IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO RADIOACTIVITY ALARM SYSTEMS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4065990
An alarm system for a radioactivity air sampling monitor in which the sampling time is automatically adjusted to suit the particular contamination level involved is described. The apparatus includes a dust sampling device and a detector responsive at the end of each sampling period to the radioactivity level of the sample collected in that period. A counter, operable by the detector, indicates the level of radioactivity after a certain counting period has elapsed. A device resets the counter to zero at the end of each counting period. An alarm is actuated by the counter on exceeding a predetermined maximum count. At a predetermined lower count in one of the counting periods a switching means is actuated by the counter to temporarily inhibit the reset device so that the counter counts over a number of successive sampling periods and registers the total count for all these periods.
