SCINTILLATION COUNTING WITH ORGANIC PHOSPHORS

Journal Article · · Canadian Journal of Chemistry (Canada)

Current techniques employed in scintiilation detection of beta emitters are reviewed. Internal liquid scintillation counting, with a number of homogeneous mixed solvent systems, is described. Heterogeneous counting systems containing radioactive material in the dispersed phase include scintillatimg gels, thickened scintillators, and emulsions, and a number of methods embodying direct counting of active deposits on filter paper. Heterogeneous systems with the radioactive material in the continuous phase are de scribed and include plastic capillary counters, plastic filaments, or organic crystals wetted with aqueous solutions.
