INCORPORATION OF RADIOACTIVELY LABELED PHOSPHATE AS AN INDICATION OF METABOLIC CONDITIONS IN THE LIVER (in German)

Various chemical and biological factors cause an increase in uptake and incorporation of radioactively labeled phosphate in the rat liver after irtraperitoneal injection. This effect was shown by groups of heterogeneous substances: cytistatic substances (N-Lost Mitomen, Endoxan, TEM, E/sub 39/); substances causing liver damage (CCl/sub 4/, allyl formate, and ethionine, as well as the anesthetic avertin); lyophilized liver cells and organ homogenates; total-body x irradiation; and partial (2/3) hepatectomy. Morphological damage to the liver was demonstrable under a light microscope only in regard to those substances known to cause hepatic damage: CCl/sup 4/, allyl formate, and ethionine. The total incorporation of phosphate in high-molecular substances, and a corresponding increase in this process, is proportional to the phosphate uptake. The increase in phosphate uptake is possibly the result of varying effective mechanisms, with varying points of attack. (auth)
