An electronic apparatus for use as a fire or flame detector is designed so that the background count discriminated against and a shorter time constant can be used, giving faster detection. The apparatus is comprised of a Geiger- Mueller tube type sensor arranged in a circuit to produce a pulsating signal when exposed to ionizing radiation characteristic of the detected condition. The sensor is connected by two signal paths (one of which includes a network that integrates the signal pulses relatively to those in the other path) to an amplifying circuit arranged to respond only when signals are received simultaneously through the two paths.
