CRYSTALLIZATION OF THE PEROVSKITE LEAD TITANATE FROM GLASSES. Report for the Initial Period June 1960-January 1961
BS>A study was made of ferroelectric lead titanate crystals precipitated from glasses. Work in formulating a glass system suitable for nucleation and growth studies was undertaken. Some quantitative x-ray analysis of crystallized lead titanate in glass are reported along with crystal growth observation at high temperatures, and DTA experiments. The results indicate that (1) an endothermic reaction on DTA runs may be associated with the nucleation phenomenon, (2) growth behavior of lead titanate indicated columnar or acicular crystals in silicate glasses and equant isometric crystals in borate glasses, and (3) surface crystallization occurred on the surface of interior bubbles in the glass.
