ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERACTIONS OF ELECTRONS AND POSITRONS AT 620 MEV IN PROPANE (in French)

Journal Article · · Helvetica Physica Acta (Switzerland)
OSTI ID:4056992
A l-Bev gamma beam passing through a copper target produces electrons which are then separated according to energy. A 780 plus or minus 10 Mev beam is then introduced into a propane bubble chamber. A reversal of the direction of the magnetic field of the pair spectrograph replaces electrons with positrons of the same energy. The inflight annihilation of positrons and bremsstrahlung reactions were studied. The cross section for positron annihilation was calculated as sigma /sub exp/ = 1.34 plus or minus 0.24 mb/electron; the theoretical value is 1.42. The differential cross section for values of v(v=k/E/ sub 0/, where k is the photon enand the results tabulated. The total cross sections were determined experimentally and the values obtained agreed will with Theoretical values. (J.S.R)
