DEUTERIUM-FILLED THYRATRON FOR HIGH-POWER SWITCHING

A deuterium-filled thyratron GHT6 with new design features was developed to control the very high pulsed powers required in many current developments. It handles 200 megawatts peak power and 150 kw mean, at a hold-off voltage of 40 kv and with a peak current rating of 10,000 amp. Application of the deuterium- filled thyratron to linear accelerators is briefly discussed. (P.C.H.)
