LOCAL QUANTUM EFFICIENCY IN COUNTER TUBES. I. CALCULATIONS

Local quantum efficiencies in Geiger counter tubes made of Fe and glass are computed. This computation is made by assuming that multiple scattering or diffusion takes place for secondary electrons produced in the counter wall. It is found that the computed local quantum efficiency greatly depends upon the angle between the incident direction of gamma rays and the inner surface of the counter or inner diameter of the counter.
