The electrical conductivity profile of an electrically produced shock front was measured. Shock flows of up to Mach 40 were obtained using coaxial electrodes. The conductivity of the gas and the shock front velocity were measured with double electrical probes. The curvature of the wave was measured with a smear camera. The conductivity of the front was linear with its Mach number, indicating thnt it is directly proportional to the energy/ion or the square root of the temperature as calculated by simple shock theory. The risetime of the shock was measured to be about 3 usec. No double structure was observed in the shock. Apparentiy, electromagnetic fronts do not fit the simple description derived from combustion driven shocks. (D.C.W.)
