Controlled fire tests were made with 50-g quantities of pyrophoric uranium metal powder to assess the relative degree of airborne contamination associated with the burning and extinguishing of this material using standard high-volume air monitoring equipment. By applying carbon microspheres for extinguishment, the airborne contamination was reduced considerably.
