Determination of Uranium as Pyrophosphate
Uranium was precipitated at pH 5.5 from solutions containing EDTA, HNO/ sub 3/, and (NH/sub 4/)/sub 2/SO/sub 4/. The ignited precipitates were dissolved in concentrated H/sub 3/PO/sub 4/ and the solutions titrated with standard K/sub 2/Cr/sub 2/O/sub 7/ solutions. Results indicate that the most probable formula is UO - UO/sub 2/ - P/sub 2/O/sub 7/ (U/sup 4//sup +/, 34.10%; total U, 68.205%). With this formula quantitative recovery of uranium was obtained from solutions of known uranium content. (P.C.H.)
