DE HAAS-VAN ALPHEN EFFECT IN POTASSIUM

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Letters
The amplitudes and periods of the de Haas-van Alphen oscillations in a K single crystal are measured, at about 1 to 2 deg K and in pulsed fields up to 160 kgauss. The results are compared with a free-electron model of metals. From the measured values, properties of the Fermi surface are inferred and an effective electron mass is calculated. (T.F.H.)
