PHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THORIUM AND ZIRCONIUM IN A MIXTURE OF THE TWO. USE OF ARSENAZO. PART III (in Japanese)

Journal Article · · Japan Analyst
A spectrophotometric method is described for the determination of both Th and Zr with arsenazo III. In 3N hydrochloric acid containing oxalic acid, Th alone forms a colored complex with the reagent. The absorptance is measured at 665 m mu . In 9N hydrochloric acid containing gelatin, both Th and Zr form colored complexes. The absorptance of the 9N hydrochloric acid solution at 665 m mu is equal to the sum of the absorptances of the Th and Zr complexes. Therefore, Zr can be determined by the difference. Satisfactory results were obtained with 5to 30 mu g of Th and 5 to 10 mu g of Zr in a volume of 25 ml or with weight ratios of Th/Zr ranging from 0.5 to 6. (from NSA of Japan)
