The Hot Fuel Examination Facility/North (HFEF/N) is a new hot cell complex provided primarily for postirradiation handling and examination of irradiation experiments on candidate fuels and materials in the liquid-metal fast breeder reactor (LMFBR) program and of experiments related to LMFBR safety. The facility is operated by Argonne National Laboratory at the Argonne-West site of the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory near Idaho Falls, Idaho. The facility was dedicated in July 1972, following which significant changes and additions were made to the facility and its equipment before initiation of hot operations March 31, 1975. The configuration of the facility at startup is described.
