AMMONIUM CARBONATE AS A MEANS OF SEPARATING URANIUM FROM IMPURITIES (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Atomnaya Energ.
OSTI ID:4037666

The dissolution of ammonium diuranate in (NH/sub 4/)/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ and NH/sub 4/HCO/sub 3/ was studied. It was found that in order to prevent the salting out of (NH/sub 4/)STAUO/sub 2/(CO/sub 33/! the dissolution should be carried out in dilute solutions NH/sub 4/HCO/sub 3/. The optimum crystallization conditions for (NH/sub 4/)/sub 4/STAUO/sub 2/(CO/sub 3/)/sub 3/! were found to b e 40 deg C, 30 g of uranium per liter of solution, and a 1-hr mixing time at 180 rpm. The separation of admixtures by ammonium carbonate was studied. The method did not prove efficient for the separation of potassium. (R.V.J.)
