Two of the widely recognized specifications for aboveground storage tanks are API Standard 650, which generally covers tanks operating at atmospheric pressure, and API 620, which generally covers tanks operating at pressures up to 15 psig. Inspection, maintenance, repairs, alteration and reconstruction of such tanks are covered by API Standard 653. This paper summarizes some important updates and changes being made to these standards.
