Despite its wide use, API Standard 653: Tank Inspection, Alteration, and Reconstruction is only a guide for internal inspection of aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) in petroleum products service. No US federal government regulations cover internal inspection of petroleum product tanks. API-653 is the current industry standard for AST inspection, evaluation, repair, reconstruction, and testing. The paper discusses bottom cleaning, inspection, contracting, inspection requirements, magnetic flux exclusion of tank bottoms, and inspection evaluation.
