Aeolian vibrations of overhead conductors may lead to wire fatigue failures in the vicinity of suspension clamps. This paper presents an analytical model of the clamp rocking action which takes into account conductor vibrations in adjacent spans, the moment of inertia of the suspension clamp and the transverse impedance of the insulator string. Traveling waves are used to represent conductor vibrations and conductor curvatures are calculated on both sides of the clamp. The results of a sensitivity analysis are presented to identify the most important parameters influencing conductor vibrations. The entire analysis is done at a single frequency of vibration and from a structural point of view only. Finally, calculated bending amplitudes are compared to experimental results.
