Determination of the Cobalt Content of a Solution by Means of Differential Spectrophotometry; DETERMINATION DE LA TENEUR EN COBALT D'UNE SOLUTION PAR SPECTRO- PHOTOMETRIE DIFFERENTIELLE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4032382
Differential spectrophotometric measurements are made of the coloration of two solutions differing in their cobalt content by about 55 mu g. The standard colorimetric procedure with ammonium thiocyanate as reagent is used. The calibration factor can be measured with a precision of plus or minus 0.77%. Depending on the number of measurements made very good precision is obtained. The statistical treatment of the results reported for 50 mg cobalt sample gives a standard deviation on the mean value (95% confidence level) of about 0.06 to 0.1%. The absolute value of course depends on the precision and accuracy with which standard cobalt solutions can be prepared. The method can be applied to other cobalt contents using a calibration factor based on the corresponding new reference solutions. (auth)
