ABSOLUTE MEASUREMENT OF THE DOSE UNIT "r" IN THE ENERGY RANGE FROM 0.2 TO 3 Mev (in German)

Journal Article · · Strahlentherapie (West Germany)
OSTI ID:4032378
The measurement of the dose constant of radium in equilibrium with its end-products was resolved experimentally as well as by calculation. The experimental measurement was carried out in a free air room, 26 x 24 x 22 m, at different distances between radiation source and ionization chamber. The manufacture of both ionization chambers is described. The result of measuring was 8.13 plus or minus 0.2r- cm/sup 2/h/sup -1/. mg/sup -1/. The result of the calculation was 8.30 plus or minus 0.4rcm/sup 2/- h/sup -1/- mg/sup -1/. Apart from this it was shown that through the exact measurings of the scatter- radiation addition the total absorption coefficient of the primary gamma rays for air can be ascertained. The value of the total absorption coefficient for air was mu = (7.27 plus or minus 0.5)- 10/sup -5/ l/cm. (auth)
