The organic scintillators used for the detection of fast neutrons are efficient but also very sensitive toward gamma radiation and therefore the gamma flux, which accompanies the neutron flux of the reactor, must be eliminated before detection. Following a scheme proposed by F. D. Brooks which the various radiations are separated on the basis of the decay time of the generated light pulse, an instrument was built for discriminating against the background radiation. The pulse from the dynode was integrated by a circuit with a time constant of 10 mu sec which was much higher than the decay time of the light flux. The device was successfully used to distinguish the desired radiation. A potentiometer was used to adjust the system in such a way that only the neutron-generated pulses appeared on the screen. By using a stilbene crystal, neutrons from a Po-- Be guished against the radiation from a /sup 60/Co source. (TTT)
