LAMINAR INCOMPRESSIBLE FLOW BETWEEN NON-CONCENTRIC CIRCULAR CYLINDER

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4031438
A solution is obtnined for the velocity distribution for laminar flow between eccentric circular cylinders. The axial component of the velocity is obtained from the NavierStokes equations and satisfies Poisson's equation. The solution is obtained by superposing upon a simple solution wi, which depends only on the distance from the center of the inner circle, a solution w/sub 2/ of Laplace"s equation such that w/sub 1/ + w/sub 2/ vanishes along the boundaries. The latter solution is obtained by conformally mapping the area between the eccentric circles on the area between concentnic circles. A numerical example is given for an eccentnicity of 0.5. For this case, the velocity profile at the narrowest section is nearly parabolic and agrees closely with that between concentric cylinders with the same gap and same inner diameter. (auth)
