THE $alpha$$/$$beta$ RATIO OF SEVERAL ORGANIC SCINTILLATORS

The pulse-height response of organic scintillators to alpha and BETA particles has been measured in an effort to find the optimum detector of neutrons in the Mev region. The 5.3-Mev alpha particles from /sup 210/Po were used to simulate the knock-on protons produced under neutron irradiation. The pulse height response of several plastic and liquid scintillators is compared to that of a commercially available product. (auth)
