A POSSIBLE DECAY OF A NEUTRAL CASCADE MESON

In cosmic ray investigations some events were observed which decayed according to the scheme D/sup 0/ -- K/sup +/ + pi /sup -/ + Q. An attempt was made to find particles with analogous decay modes which could be obtained from the beams of highenergy accelerators. Twenty thousand photographs taken during the exposure of the 2-liter xenon bubble chamber to a beam of pi -mesons with a momentum of 3 Bev/c were scanned. One event was found which could be the decay of a heavy meson by the scheme DO -- K/sup +/ + pi /sup -/. An attempt was also made to calculate the mass of D/sup 0/ by the kinetics of production, assuming that D/sup 0/ is generated in the reaction pi /sup -/ + p -- n + D/sup 0/. (M.C.G.)
