ANGULAR CORRELATION OF $gamma$-RAYS IN INELASTIC DIFFRACTION SCATTERING

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The gamma-ray correlation function following inelastic excitation of the first rotational level of an even-mass nucleus by a spinless projectile was analyzed taking into c onsideration non-adiabaticity. In the linear approximation over the non-adiabaticity parameter the gamma distribution in the scattering plane reduces to the form sin/sup 2/ STA2( THETA gamma /-- THETA /sub 0/)!, where the parameter THETA /sub 0/ is not equal to the adiabatic recoil angle THETA /sub R(ad)/, in contrast to the result calculated in the adiabatic approximation by Blair and Wilets. The difference DELTA = THETA /sub 0/ -- THETA /sub R(ad)/ has a maxima for projectile scattering angles corresponding approximately to the minima of the angular distribution; DELTA is negative in the left neighborhood of the minimum and positive on the right of the minimum.
