p'-$gamma$ ANGULAR CORRELATION IN THE INELASTIC SCATTERING OF 16.6-Mev PROTONS BY Mg$sup 2$$sup 4$

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
The angular correlation between the inelastically scattered protons leaving the first excited state of Mg/sup 24/ (1.37 Mev, 2+) and its de- excitation gamma rays produced by the bombandment of 16.6-Mev protons on a natural magnesium target was investigated. For theta /sub p/' = 30 deg , 42.5 deg , and 70 deg the correlation functions are represented fairly well by the simple Born approximation calculation, sin/sup 2/2( theta /sub gamma / -- theta /sub 0/. However, at larger angles, theta /sub p/' = 95 deg , 120 deg , and 150 deg , changes in the shapes of correlation curves are observed. introducing a contribution from a sin/sup 2/( theta /sub gamma /-- theta /sub 0/') term.
