ISOMERIC STATES OF THE SPHERICAL NUCLEI OF Eu$sup 147$, Eu$sup 149$ AND Eu$sup 15$$sup 1$

Half-lifes of the h 11/2 levels of Eu/sup 147/, Eu/sup 149/, and Eu< s1>s/sup 51/ are measured and the following respective values obtained: T /sub 1/ 2/ = (7.1 plus or minus 0.4) x 10/sup -7/ sec, T/sub 1/2/ = (2.48 PP 0.05) x 10/ sup -6/ sec, and T /sub 1/2/ = (5.8 plus or minus 0.3) x 10/sup -5/ sec. The M2-type transition s from the h /sub 11///sub 2/ levels prove retarded, the degree of retardation increasing with the number of neutrons from 84 to 88. The E3-type transition rates in the nuclei of Eu/sup 147/ and Eu/sup 14/ /sup 9/ prove close to one-particle evaluations. The results of the present investigation, together with the data, contradict the analysis performed by Nilsson and Gottfried on the motion of an odd proton of Eu/sup 151/ in a deformed potential.
