Solar brightness temperature distribution at 350 and 450 microns
Solar scans, passband limited to effective wavelengths 350 and 450 μ, have been obtained with angular resolution of about 1'. The observations show little evidence of the limb brightening that would be expected from spherically symmetric homogeneous atmospheric models and the observed increase in brightness temperature in the regions above the solar atmosphere temperature minimum. The observations suggest that the complex structure that is observed at higher levels in the solar atmosphere extends down to the level of the temperature minimum.
