A winding apparatus is designed for removing radioactive thermocouples from a gas-cooled reactor without hazard to the operator. The apparatus has shielding means, and two embodiments are described: one for cutting and withdrawing a cable from a channel, and one for conducting the withdrawing operation only. (D.L.C.)
