EQUIVALENCE THEOREMS AND RENORMALIZATION PROBLEM IN VECTOR FIELD THEORY (THE YANG-MILLS FIELD WITH NON-VANISHING MASSES)

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.
Equivalence theorems are derived for the Yang-Mills field with non- vanishing masses and for the electrodynamics of vector fields. A general theory of the Stueckelberg formalism is also presented. On the basis of these theorems the renormalizability problem is discussed for the above cases. It is concluded that quite contrary to the case of a single real vector field, the theory is not renormalizable even when the source current of the field is strictly conserved. The origin of the non-renormalizability can always be traced back to the mass terms. Theorems are further generalized to the case of the intermeieate vector particletheory of weak interactions.
