PHENOMENOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF PROTON COMPTON SCATTERING FOR POLARIZED PHOTONS AND PROTONS

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The amount of informntion that can be obtained about the S-matrix for proton Compton scattering is investigated. Compton scattering can be described by six complex amplitudes. Using phase shift analysis, six convenient invariarts were constructed. The corresponding six complex amplitudes were calculated. They are expressed as sums of Smatrix elements multiplied by Jacobian polynomia1s. Knowing the amplitudes, the S-matrix elements can be calculated. The differential cross sections for all kinds of polarization of the particles were expressed in terms of the complex amplitudes. It is shown that all these amplitudes can be determined from experiments, which can be performed at present. (auth)
