In an attempt to apply a Regge-pole treatment to photoproduction it was found that in order to obtain the desired results massive photons have to be introduced into the theory to allow for effects arising from longitudinal polarization of the photon. A new set of invariant amplitudes for the electroproduction of pions naturally suggest themselves from these considerations. (auth) The peratization method of Feinberg and Pais is applied to lepton-nucleon interactions, examining possible effects of the nucleon vertex structure. In this case, the correction to the coupling constant, due to the contribution of the ladder graphs at zero momentum-transfer, is different, in general, from that obtained in the pure leptonic case.
