A METHOD FOR REDUCING ENERGY VARIATIONS OF A VAN DE GRAAFF ION BEAM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4027419
Signals from the slit control system and the terminal of a Van de Graaff accelerator were amplified and applied to the target in proper phase to reduce time dependent variations in beam energy. The Al/sup 27/(p, gamma )Si/sup 28/ resonance at 0.992 Mev was used to measure the beam energy spread. The measurements indicate that further improvements in the beam energy distribution are possible with optimum voltage and phasing of the signal applied to the target. (auth)
